Can I get a Medigap Plan F or has it Gone Away?
In 2020 you will no longer be able to purchase a Medicare Supplement Plan F in Missouri. However, if you get a Plan F policy in Missouri now you will be able to keep it. These highly valuable supplemental plans are being phased out as a cost cutting measure for the government. The theory is that seniors will stop seeing their doctor if they have to pay out-of-pocket.

A supplement does not pay for your prescriptions. By law, supplemental insurance must cover Original Medicare covers, and nothing more. Foreign travel coverage is the only exception. To get help with your prescriptions, you'll need to join a Missouri Medicare Part D plan.
Missouri Medicare Supplements are Regulated by Law
Missouri insurance carriers are required to follow both state and federal laws regulating Medicare Supplements. Plans are standardized and must provide the exact coverage mandated. The only variance is the premium and how the premium is calculated.
All supplements sold in Missouri offer the basic benefits of Plan A. All other plans include additional levels of gap coverage. This lets you to select the amount right coverage for your personal needs.
Each carrier decides which plans it wants to issue. State law mandates that:
- Carriers are not required to offer every plan;
- Carriers must offer Plan A (basic benefits); and
- Carriers must also offer Plan C or Plan F.
